I’ve loved playing miniature golf since I was a kid—and honestly, I still do. There was something magical about picking out a brightly colored ball, grabbing a too-tall putter, and heading out to conquer windmills and loop-de-loops. At my hometown course, my favorite obstacle was the barber pole. It had a little metal ramp you’d shoot your ball up, and it would swirl around the pole before dropping back down toward the hole. I got so many holes-in-one on that one—it was always such a thrill!
I also have great memories of playing at the mini-golf course on Route 1 in Saugus, the one with the giant orange T-rex towering over the highway. It was iconic. I was sad to learn it closed in 2015 after more than 50 years.
